The slotted anti-loosening nut is cold-headed from medium carbon or alloy steel and precisely slotted; during installation a cotter pin passes through the nut slots and the bolt hole for positive mechanical locking. Unlike friction-type locking, it does not rely on preload, so the nut will not turn back even when the bolt is fully unloaded — suited to extreme vibration and high-low temperature cycling.
